“Took a job, looking for some men to join me”

The western is a genre of the past, if we’re lucky we get a new western film once a year and there have been some real good ones the last few years. Hopefully this teaser trailer is the first look of what is going to be another welcome addition to the genre. This is a remake of a remake, 1960’s The Magnificent Seven was a western reimagining on 1954’s Seven Samurai so it will be interesting what director Antoine Fuqua brings to this classic story.

The cast is impressive, leading the seven is frequent Fuqua collaborator, Denzel Washington. Joining him is Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia and Martin Sensmeier as the gang of outlaws who will defend the small town from the evil Peter Sarsgaard. It’s an odd group of actors but it is very cool to see them all in cowboy gear firing guns at the bad guys.

The trailer showcases a lot of action, humour, stuff blowing up and the Seven being responsible for all kinds of heroic mayhem and all of it to the tune of “House of the Rising Sun”… it’s pretty cool. This trailer didn’t shoot the Magnificent Seven up to my most anticipated list but it does have me interested in how this film turns out. It’s cast and visuals tease a real exciting adventure so hopefully it delivers.
